This week I interacted with someone in my community whom felt their lot in life was stuck where it is.
“Do you know about the Law of Attraction?” I asked.
“I know all about the Law of Attraction.” he replied.
“The reason I ask is that when I asked how you have been, the first thing you said was this past year was the worst yet.”
He said, “The Law of Attraction does not exclude things being bad especially when Karma is involved.”
“As I understand the Law of Attraction,” I began, “Whatever you hold as your subject of attention sets your Vibration which attracts more of the same to you.”
“If someone is in a car accident, they have no control over that.”
“Not once the accident has happened.”
“There is no way you can know that a car accident is coming towards you.”
“I believe you can.”
“I don’t believe that.” he said firmly.
“Are you open to a new idea?” I gently asked.
He took an beat and then nodded for me to continue.
“The Law of Attraction gives you more of whatever you are focused upon. If you continue to tell the story you shared with me . . . the past year was the worst yet . . . every time you think that thought, you are a match to that experience, and you will feel bad.”
“You have obviously not had someone close to you die.”
“I have actually.”
“Who?”
“The woman who was my first wife.”
“Did you not have a great hole in your heart because of death that was impossible to fill?”
“I did not feel that great hole that you are talking about. Are you open to a new idea?” I gently asked again, and he nodded for me to continue. “When you remember the greatest most love filled times you had with your loved one . . . right now recall one of them.”
The man closed his eyes and a smile graced his face and his shoulders relaxed.
“That love you are feeling, right now, is not a result of that person being in your life, it is a result of the focus of your thought in this moment. Even when your loved one was present, the reason you felt that love in their presence was because you choose to direct your thoughts towards feeling that love. Your Feelings always indicate the direction of your thoughts.”
“I agree that thoughts are powerful.”
“When you look towards something you want and you think you are going to get there — even without knowing how — you will feel good.” I paused to let that thought sink in. “Also when you look away from the thing that you desire and you think — there is no possible way for you to get it — you will always feel bad.”
“But these are things you cannot control.”
“I agree with you. You can never control the things that are external to you.”
“You can only control how you respond to them.” He said.
“Exactly, all of your control is in the direction of your thought, and you can control your thought before you arrive there.”
“But bad things happen to good people too.”
“Good or bad is a perception. What one person sees as bad, because they are not able to see the opportunity in the experience, another person sees as good, because they are able to see the opportunity in the experience.”
“Positive thinking?” he asked.
“Positive expecting.” I said, “When you train your thought to be open to new ideas, to believe that everything in life is set up for you to win, or to expect things to have a positive possibility, then you have all that control you could ever possibly have.”
“That type of sustained thought is hard.”
“At first any new thought is hard to sustain, but it gets easier with time. It takes sustained determination to direct your thoughts in a way that you can find good feeling things wherever you are.”
“You have that kind of sustained thought pattern.”
“I’m not perfect, but I do have a more focused sustained positive expectation thought process than most.”
“I feel a great sense of relief now.” He put his hand out and I shook it firmly, “Thanks for your reminder.”
“Your welcome . . . however you were open to a new idea. And when you are open to a new positive expectation idea, your life flourishes in leaps and bounds.”
And your life can flourish too!
Blessings,
Barry
